While Schrier may not have been the most flashy or prolific player on the ice, his consistent play was invaluable to the Avalanche's success. He was known for his ability to win face-offs, kill penalties, and provide a steady presence on the ice. His teammates and coaches relied on him to bring a sense of calm and stability to the team.

After 15 seasons in the NHL, Schrier retired in 2003 with 114 goals and 237 assists in 959 regular season games. He also represented Canada at the 1998 Winter Olympics, winning a silver medal.

Following his retirement, Schrier transitioned into coaching, serving as an assistant coach for the Colorado Eagles and head coach for the Denver Cutthroats. He is currently a pro scout for the New Jersey Devils.

Throughout his career, Schrier was known for his humble and approachable demeanor. He was always willing to share his knowledge and experience with younger players, and he was a respected figure in the hockey community.
